The Beijing International Media Center (BIMC) opens for reporters who do not have an Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card. The Center is two kilometers away from the Main Press Center and is expected to cater for 5,000 unaccredited reporters during the course of the Beijing Olympics.

Cui Yaozhong, Director of the BIMC, expects that unaccredited reporters are likely to have a different focus to their colleagues who have accreditation from the Internatoinal Olympic Committee and local hosts, BOCOG.

"The focus of the unaccredited reporters is different. They mainly focus on some hot issues, such as environmental protection, security, traffic support and so on. We will invite the relevant professionals to communicate with the journalists face to face. We are preparing a lot of material to facilitate their reporting and will try our best not to refuse their requests," Yaozhong told Chinese television network, CCTV.

On its website, the BIMC says that it will provide "news, information and reception services for journalists who do not have an Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card issued by the International Olympic Committee."

The centre will also serve "as an important platform for the release of news and information about Beijing generally, and other parts of China."

The BIMC is divided into seven major functional areas: Media Accreditation, General Services, Services for Journalists, Journalists' Working Area , Press Conferences, exhibitions, and catering and recreation.
